 | My family is all on the island and I go up to visit once a year.My fathers side ,the McIntyres, come from Dominion and worked in the coal mines for several generations. My mothers side the Walls/Gillis's come from the pier in Sydney and worked the steel mill. I feel lucky to come from such a back ground |
 | Growing up I always looked forward to spending summers on the island my gran father lived in Sydney Forks where he had an old farm house with a 200 year old barn.He raised pigs ,and horses that he used for harness racing and was inducted into the Cape Breton Horsemans Associations hall of fame.Some fond memories are swimming at Big Pond and listning to my aunt tell awesome ghost storys.I also got to go down in the mine at North Sydney about 20 years ago and got to see what it was like for my granparents who worked there.I love to go there every summer and have all these memories come rushing back!I feel lucky to have spent some of my childhood there. |
