Cajun Bob's Page
|
My friends call me Bob, but I'm known as Cajun-Bob in DHL circles. I grew up in Cape Breton from the time I was born until I left in 1968. I have to admit to being a geezer, but one with, je ne sais quoi, une certaine joie de vivre.

I participated in an open mike session in November, 1998. If I learn to play my chords correctly, sing the right notes and the other guys at these sessions are worse than I am, I may be able to fulfill a long time dream ... get paid gigs. I also have a shot at winning the lottery.
Music is my passion. I play guitar and jam with other musicians. I play celtic, rock & roll, blues, bluegrass, country, folk and other types of music. Currently, I'm trying to master one of Stan Rogers' tunes, Giant, a haunting song set in the Bras d'Or area. I've dabbled in photography, handyman projects, canoeing and the culinary arts.
After working in Ottawa, Halifax and Edmonton, I started my own accounting practice in St. Albert in 1992. I specialize in business valuations and business planning but I'm currently expanding the accounting and tax portions of my practice.
I hang out with Carol, a very special lady who lives in Calgary. I have two sons. Paul will be 26 in 1999. He just returned from 3 years in Lake Louise and 2 years in England. He's a bartender, carpenter and an aspiring writer. Mike will be 19 in 1999. He graduated from high school in 1998 and is now a musician, actor and bible student. My Dad, Leon, is the source of my entrepreneurial spirit and love of music. He was a fiddle player who improved a lot by fiddling with his army buddy, Scotty Fitzgerald.
My home village, Petit de Grat, got its name, which means little fishing station, from Basque fishermen who fished there since the days of Champlain. Like most Cape Bretoners in exile, I left to get work - I wasn't interested in cutting fish for a living. The things I miss most about Cape Breton are the open ocean, the salt air, the lobster, the people and the music. These things will always remain in my heart.
